Resolution Nyandarua Thursday January 15, 2025 by Wanjiru Esther Residents endorse electric fence in Marmanet Forest to resolve human-wildlife conflict. Following the recent elephant attack that claimed the life of a resident, villagers on the outskirt’s village of Nyahururu have approved the construction of an electric fence along Marmanet forest. Mid last year, a section of residents chased away surveyors who were marking route for twenty kilometers fence around Marmanet forest, causing the project to halt. The residents expressed concerns they would lose their farms to the forest. However, on Wednesday 15, 2025 residents reversed their positions and gave their approval for the project during public participation meetings held in the areas where the fence will be constructed. Fuel price rose by Sh0.29 for super petrol, Sh2 for diesel and Sh3 for kerosene, leaving riders questioning themselves how they will cope with daily operations. Kelvin Mwangi is a bode boda rider in Nyahururu, explained that when fuel prices rise, customers do not seem to care and refuse to pay higher ride fares, resulting in loses for riders like him. “Customers doesn’t understand the prices has risen, you find it is hard for them to add the ride, this is a loss in our side. “said Kelvin Mwangi. ELEPHANT Nyandarua Monday January 13, 2025 by Wanjiru Esther Elephant attack claims life in Nyahururu, sparking protests over wildlife conflict. Transport came to a halt along the busy Nyahururu-Rumuruti Road; Monday morning following the demise of Josphat Oruko, sixty-five years old who was reportedly attacked by an elephant from Marmanet Forest Sunday night at his home in Kauka village in Nyahururu Laikipia county. Vehicles that use the route were forced to use alternative routes as the residents vowed to shut down everything until they have a conversation with the authorities.  The angry residents went to the streets, demanding accountability from Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
