Fuel prices hike in Nyahururu sparks concerns among boda boda riders
Boda boda riders in Nyahururu has feel the pressure following the latest fuel price hike announced Tuesday 14 by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory (EPRA). Fuel price rose by Sh0.29 for super petrol, Sh2 for diesel and Sh3 for kerosene, leaving riders questioning themselves how they will cope with daily operations.
Kelvin Mwangi is a bode boda rider in Nyahururu, explained that when fuel prices rise, customers do not seem to care and refuse to pay higher ride fares, resulting in loses for riders like him.
“Customers doesn’t understand the prices has risen, you find it is hard for them to add the ride, this is a loss in our side. “said Kelvin Mwangi.
For many boda boda riders like Mwangi the price hike are more than just an inconvenience, they are a daily struggle to keep their business afloat.
Raphael Njoki, another boda boda rider in Nyahururu, highlited that it is becoming hard to balance costs of maintaining the motorbike and buying fuel. He also pointed out that the rising fuel prices contribute to higher cost of living, with everyday products like cooking oil, sugar seeing prices increases further stretching our budgets.
“Buying body or spare parts and buying fuel becomes hard on catering both of them, economy becomes hard since sugar and cooking oil among others are being added price, “said Raphael Njoki.
For many boda boda riders like Mwangi and Raphael the price hike is more than just an inconvenience, they are a daily struggle to keep their business afloat.
As fuel prices increases in Nyahururu boda boda riders are feeling the pressure, with increase in operational costs and challenging economy balancing these costs becomes a threat.
