City Getaways with Campus Friends

Campus life isn’t just about lectures, assignments, and exams—it’s also about creating moments that turn into lifelong memories. For me, leisure time with my friends and coursemates has always been a chance to relax, laugh, and bond outside the classroom.

If I was asked what I value most, I would say it’s the laughter, the games, the bonds, and the memories we create together. Thumbs up to my amazing friends♥️you guys will always hold a special place in my heart, even in my next life.
Since our campus is located right in the capital city, Nairobi, we’ve had the privilege of exploring some of the most pocket-friendly city getaways. You may know some of these places—or maybe you don’t! Either way, let me take you through one of my favorite experiences.

Uhuru Park Adventures

The first group hangout I went to was at Uhuru Park, one of Nairobi’s most iconic recreational spots. If I start narrating my experiences there, it could easily turn into a full feature story! After searching for options, we finally settled on Uhuru Park, and it did not disappoint.

The park has a small lake where you can enjoy boat rides, wide stretches of green grass perfect for picnics, and plenty of trees for nature lovers (you can definitely feel me here). On top of that, it offers a stunning view of the city skyline, including landmarks like the KICC and the Bunge Towers.

The Planning Side of Things

Let me be honest, planning group outings isn’t always easy, especially if you’re the one coming up with the idea and, like me, happen to be the elder in the group. As a leader, you have to allow corrections, welcome new ideas, and encourage suggestions. At the end of the day, you agree on a theme, choose the location, create a budget, appoint a treasurer, and even prepare a shopping list.

Roles have to be divided equally. Luckily, if you’re blessed with supportive and generous friends, the tasks become fun and less stressful because people volunteer willingly. Our tasks usually include:

Snacks, cake, and fruit shopping 🍎🍰

Location and sitting arrangement management 🌳

Transport logistics 🚐

Outfits and makeup coordination 👗✨

One thing I’ve learned? Do window shopping first. It helps you find multiple things within your budget. And above all, unity is everything, it makes the whole process smooth.

A Day to Remember

When the day finally comes, the fun is unmatched. We eat, we laugh, and we play all kinds of games; Never Have I Ever, Truth or Dare, Rock-Paper-Scissors, card games, you name it! More than just having fun, we also get the chance to know each other better. By the end of the day, you feel the bond grow stronger.

It’s not just about the location—it’s about the people. And for me, every outing reminds me how lucky I am to have these amazing friends.
